More About My Work Ethic

As I mentioned, I got my drive and work ethic from my mom and dad. They suggested that I get a job early and I got my first job at a Dairy Queen when I was 13 and I have worked ever since, sometimes working two or three jobs. Through my parent's example, I became the first member of my family to go to college and the first and only lawyer in my family. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in three years, instead of four often while working 30 hours a week to pay for books and food. I am a graduate of Temple Law School, where I worked a flexible full-time schedule while attending the day program.

So, I can whole-heartedly promise to work hard for the people of Butler County, to be fair, impartial, honest and firm.

I would appreciate your vote on May 15, 2007. Thank you.

More About The Candidate

As the daughter of a Korean immigrant who, with limited language skills, went right to work in the American workforce as a waitress and later a factory worker, I learned early the value of a strong work ethic. The importance of hard work was further instilled in me by my father, a truck driver and member of the Teamsters.

Without their love, support and guidance, I would not have graduated from college early or pursued a career in law early. I would not have joined the fire department and devoted the little free time I have to working for the members of my community.

With your support, I hope to carry this work ethic into my next job - as Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Butler County.

About the Candidate: Cindy Dunlap Hinkle

I have known since I was very young, eight years old, in fact, that I wanted to be a lawyer and someday a judge. In fact, I set my goals very high, in that I told those who asked, at church, at school, and even random strangers that I wanted to sit on the Supreme Court one day. To that end, I have worked in the law since I was 18. I have quite literally worked my way to one day becoming a judge.

I started at 18 working in a small estates and family law practice. While attending college and later law school, I worked for a firm which specialized in representing small children who had been abused or otherwise mistreated in institutional settings. In addition to other various civil matters, the firm also represented plaintiffs in asbestos claims and represented defendants in small criminal matters. During law school I interned for Federal District Judge Thomas N. O'Neill, Jr. Since law school, I have also gained broad-based experience in litigation and trial law ranging from small automobile accident matters to multi-million dollar contract disputes.

My legal work has taught me invaluable skills for dealing with many aspects of the law and all aspects of the public, including small children, grieving families and the elderly. My experiences have taught me to treat every individual with both dignity and respect. Moreover, as an active member of the Portersville Muddy Creek Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, I have developed the skills necessary to interact with members of the public in high-stress situations. I believe each of these experiences have made me an ideal candidate for judicial office.

In recent years, I have thought long and hard about becoming involved in the political process in order to run for a position as Judge on the Court of Common Pleas because the office of Judge combines my two loves: the law and public service. I have been active in my community my entire life from work as a hospital volunteer, Meals-On-Wheels volunteer and volunteer Firefighter, and I understand that public service demands responsibility, integrity and independence. Moreover, I have a strong work ethic and promise to work hard and focus my energies on the Butler County community when elected.

My intention is to restrict fundraising. I will conduct my campaign on my own funds as a grassroots campaign to prevent any appearances of impropriety. A judge must be completely impartial and fair and it is my intention to assure the constituents of Butler County that I am both impartial and fair. I will follow the law and I will not permit personal feelings and/or affiliations to affect the rendering of decisions.

I believe my calm disposition and attention to detail has taught me how to listen closely to clients and counsel, both of which will be effective while rendering decisions and/or judging from the bench. I will let the facts and law guide my decisions from the bench.

Lastly, should the residents of Butler County see fit to elect me to the Court of Common Pleas, I would have the pleasure and honor of being only the second female of Asian descent to serve on a court in Pennsylvania.
